On February 13, 2014, after the regular SARC monthly business meeting in the Downtown Activity Centre in Salmon Arm, more than a dozen radio amateurs moved upstairs to the Office and Studio of CKVS in Room 30 on the third floor.
2013 Activation of Copper Island, B. C. — VE7RC
On September 21 and 22, 2013 from 1700Z to 1700Z, the Shuswap
Amateur Radio Club activated Copper Island, the only island on Shuswap Lake, a key recreational water body in our province covering 120 square miles with a maximum depth of 530 feet.
Excitement builds as we move towards September and what will be a first for amateur radio in the Shuswap in terms a very, very Special Event— a DXpedition on Copper Island.
A highlight of Field Day 2013 was the Youth Element.
For perhaps the first time, we were able to claim bonus points for operators under the age of 18 who made at least one contact.

Following an exchange of several emails to provide information and clarification of details, I received word today from Wes DeArmond, Thompson Eastern Lakes Area Supervisor with the Ministry of Environment, that SARC will be permitted to run an Island Activation station from Copper Island in September. We will have to adhere to strict environmental standards while staging the event, but it has been approved.
End of the day
My last entry was about my first Field Day. Since that time I have been unable to participate in any others, not from a lack of desire just circumstances. This year hopefully I will be a bit more involved. But before we get into that we have one thing we must accomplish, a little background first. You may well remember my tale and experience on putting up the antique tent and the manpower and “expertise”required? Well no more, the tent has been disposed of to a good home and we wish the new owners the best of luck and happy camping. We now have a new structure to work on and on Saturday May 11th will be the unveiling, launching, maiden “voyage” of our new tent. Apparently it is possible for one man to set it up but we don’t know yet which man that is, hopefully we can determine that on the aforementioned Saturday. Volunteers are encouraged to attempt this feat and the successful contender will be lauded, feted and forever remembered, well may be not. If we do not find that man we will do it the old fashioned way with a crew.
