SARC was present again this year providing communications backup for the 42nd annual Reino Keski Salmi Loppet last Saturday. Temperatures were relatively warm and the course was foggy. Conditions, while not great due to a lack of snow, turned out to be reasonable and not as icy as anticipated. The only injury was a broken foot by one of the participants so no drama there. He just won’t be off to a tournament in Europe next week. The new “lunch box” radio worked very well as did the various hand held radios so communications went well. Overall radio traffic was minimal this year as there weren’t any issues to deal with. This is the second year for the new course and it worked well again, making for a quicker loppet. Our crew was back in the Chalet by 13:00 hours to get their beef on a bun.
