This August, held from August 22 to 24, the Fall Fair in Salmon Arm, BC, brought the community together once again at the fairgrounds that have hosted the event for over 100 years. The weather was perfect — sunny, warm, and just right for a weekend full of fun, exhibits, and good energy.
The Salmon Arm Amateur Radio Club took part with a booth that showed off the world of amateur radio. Everything was set up on time and ran smoothly, thanks to a great group of volunteers who helped prepare and keep things going throughout the fair.
Volunteers included:
Wayne VA7VT, Celia VA7NIA, Robin VE7HMN, Mary VA7MCH,
Mike VE7LOG, Phil VE7BPH, Al VE7CAL,
Lucas VE7RME, Blane VE7EKN, and Peter VE7PAE.
At the booth, visitors could check out:
- VHF radio equipment
- Old-school transistor technology
- A working FM radio model built from an electronics kit
There were also display panels with info about:
- The history of radio
- How to become a licensed amateur radio operator
- How amateur radio helps during emergencies
- Photos from past club activities
People showed a lot of interest. Many stopped by to ask questions, share stories, and learn more. Some even said they’d like to take the online amateur radio course offered by RAC (Radio Amateurs of Canada) – and by the end of the weekend, 12 people had officially signed up for the basic course.
All in all, it was a great experience — full of conversations, learning, and new connections. The club was proud to be part of it, and the community showed that there’s plenty of curiosity and enthusiasm for radio out there.
